1. Sheesh, people.  Well, I’m no purist.  OBVI.
  2. "Mono-tasking is especially important while organizing."
  3. "Gmail has many great qualities, like integrated instant messaging, large storage allotment, and integration with Google Calendar and Google Documents. But for reasons that are totally unclear to me, Google has chosen not to provide an integrated task list solution (or ‘to-do’ lists), either in Google Calendar or Gmail. However, a small Australian start-up has come to our rescue with an intuitive task list application, called Remember The Milk."

I was thinking of trying Remember the Milk.  But what I’m really waiting for is for Google Gears to get around to me and my Google Docs account.  Drumming fingers, dum dum de dum, whistle, look at the ceiling.  Okay Google Gears, I’m ready!

  4. "I never want to touch a piece of proprietary hardware to access content again. There’s no need! We’ll be able to stream HD content soon enough; in the interim, even these browser-based solutions could pre-fetch and cache it. The only reason companies like Blockbuster and Vudu want dedicated hardware is because it locks you into their service. They’re recreating the Blu-ray/HD DVD format war for streaming digital media. How silly is that?"
  5. "Merchant/capitalist mindset, valuing everything through currency, alloys our sense of wonder."

  7. My mother-in-law has a hybrid car, and this last weekend I stayed indoors while she and Mrs. R went shopping.  They left the house but I never heard the “engine start” sound….  I was wondering if there was something wrong, looked out the window, and they were long gone.  That hybrid is VERY quiet until it hits a certain speed and the gas engine kicks in.

  9. I liked my wife’s blog entry today (I always like her blog entries!). Also I would like to add my sympathies and good thoughts for Ed & Tina’s friend who lost her baby & her father to a car accident. Compassion & support are always important, but they are even more needed when tragedy strikes.
  10. I love the phrase “finger friendly user interface”.
  11. "Time to stay ahead of the pack, Asus. Where’s the Fff?"
  12. "You're a Grown-Up--act like one!" WTF?

    “Act like a grown-up”… “You’re acting like a 12- (or 8- or 5-) year old”…. Nice triez!!

Phrases like that are ugly attempts to control & suppress, even when they are used on actual young people. I think they’re just downright offensive when used on fellow adults.

Go ahead, valorize “maturity” … go ahead and do the “grown-up” thing. Let me know how that werkz out for ya.

I’m all about taking care of one’s shit. That’s just basic. But being “grown-up”? FTS.

In my mind, “grown-up” implies done. Stasis. “Legitimate.” There’s an implication of a standardization of chronology and an assumption that being “grown-up” is the desired state. The term “grown-up” is primarily used to frame a pejorative judgment of “non-grown-up” behaviors and attitudes, whatever those may be.

Get your grown-uppity snot outta my face.

    Now I feel better.
