1. "You're a Grown-Up--act like one!" WTF?

    “Act like a grown-up”… “You’re acting like a 12- (or 8- or 5-) year old”…. Nice triez!!

Phrases like that are ugly attempts to control & suppress, even when they are used on actual young people. I think they’re just downright offensive when used on fellow adults.

Go ahead, valorize “maturity” … go ahead and do the “grown-up” thing. Let me know how that werkz out for ya.

I’m all about taking care of one’s shit. That’s just basic. But being “grown-up”? FTS.

In my mind, “grown-up” implies done. Stasis. “Legitimate.” There’s an implication of a standardization of chronology and an assumption that being “grown-up” is the desired state. The term “grown-up” is primarily used to frame a pejorative judgment of “non-grown-up” behaviors and attitudes, whatever those may be.

Get your grown-uppity snot outta my face.

    Now I feel better.
