It scans for new blog entries and news posts on websites you’re subscribed to (subscribing is very simple to do with the Reader). I don’t get disappointed visiting an unupdated blog anymore because I just don’t visit unless Google Reader alerts me about an update. And it’s great way to keep track of your favorite online magazines and newspapers. The problem is that it creates an efficient method of tracking which in turn tempts me to add more and more subscriptions and track more sites, which leads to lots time spent reading new entries.
And if I come upon a site that piques my interest I can subscribe for awhile and see if it sustains that interest. If not, unsubscribing is easy.
